Es gab mal eine Zeit, in der ich keine Jeans getragen habe. Es gab nicht wirklich einen Grund; eine der Jeans, die ich bis dahin hatte, war so ziemlich dabei, auseinanderzufallen, die andere war zu eng geworden, und irgendwie, richtig vermisst habe ich sie nicht. Erst Jahre später, als mir meine Mutter ein Paar Levi's Bootcut-Jeans gekauft hat, ist mir klar geworden, was mir in all den Jahren gefehlt hatte. Ich liebe Jeans. Wie sie aussehen, wie strapazierfähig sie sind, dass man sie in der Freizeit tragen oder als Teil eines schickeren Outfits tragen kann ... hey, und sie müssen nicht gebügelt werden!
There was a time when I didn't wear jeans. Not for any particular reasons; one of the two pairs I had previously owned had started to fall apart, the other one just didn't fit any more, and I did not really miss them. It was only years later when my mother bought me a pair of Levi's Bootcut jeans that I realised what I had missed. I love jeans. The look of them, how hard-wearing they are, that you can dress them up or down ... hey, and you don't even have to iron them!
Ich habe meine Levi's wirklich oft getragen in den letzten sechs, acht Jahren (es ist schon so lange her, ich erinner mich nicht mehr daran, wann ich sie bekommen habe), aber jetzt fangen sie an, zu verschleißen. Als der Jeanssnob, der ich bin, habe ich nicht wirklich einen Gedanken daran verschwendet, eine andere Jeansmarke als Levi's zu kaufen, hatte aber zurzeit auch nicht wirklich das Geld, mir ein neues Paar anzuschaffen. Gute Jeans sind teuer!
I have worn my Levi's A LOT during the last six, eight years (it's been so long I don't even remember any more when I got them) but they have started to wear out now. A jeans snob, I didn't really see myself buying any other brand than Levi's but didn't really have the money to get me a new pair. Good jeans are expensive!

Margate stand. Die Kleider, die sie dort versuchten, an den Mann zu bringen, waren der letzte Mist, ich habe kein einziges annehmbar ausschauendes Hemd oder Kleid zu Gesicht bekommen - aber eine ganze Kleiderstange voller Jeans hatten sie! Ich habe vier anprobiert, zwei in meiner Größe, eine in einer Größe zu groß, eine in einer Größe zu klein - und eine von den vieren hat mir tatsächlich perfekt gepasst! Ich konnte es nicht glauben. Und anstatt 90 GBP oder so für eine neue Levi's zu bezahlen, bin ich mit einer neuen Jeans nach Hause gegangen ... die mich 3 GBP gekostet hat.
...or so I thought until I stood in this small charity shop in Margate. The clothes they were selling were crap, I couldn't find a single decent looking shirt or dress, but they had a whole rack full of jeans! I tried four, two in my size, one too big, one too small - and one actually fitted me perfectly! I couldn't believe it. And instead of paying 90 GBP or so for a new Levi's I went home with a new dark blue jeans ... for 3 GBP.
Zurück in London habe ich mir gleich den Ständer mit Jeans in meinem Charity-Shop angesehen und sofort zwei weitere Paar entdeckt. Eine war richtig weit, was mir auch gut gefallen hat, die andere war von Schnitt und Farbe her so ziemlich das Gleiche wie die, die ich aus Margate hatte ... und so kam es, dass ich etwas getan habe, was ich schon sehr lange nicht mehr gemacht habe - ich habe ein Kleidungsstück gekauft, obwohl ich schon so ziemlich das gleiche Teil zu Hause hatte. Ich hatte ein ziemlich schlechtes Gewissen - bis mir klar wurde, dass ich gerade 9 GBP für drei Paar Jeans bezahlt hatte statt 90 GBP für ein Paar (und damit definitiv besser da stand, selbst wenn die Jeans, für die du 90 GBP bezahlt hast, 6, 7 oder 8 Jahre hält).
Back in London, I checked out the jeans rack in my local charity shop and came across another two pairs. One was a very loose-leg pair which I quite liked, while the cut of the other was not very different from the one I had gotten in Margate ... so I did something I haven't done in a long time - I purchased a clothing item even though I have pretty much the same one at home. I felt kind of bad - until I realised I had paid 9 GBP for three pairs of jeans instead of 90 GBP for one pair (which IS the better deal, even if your 90 GBP jeans last 6, 7, 8 years).
Ich habe es noch nicht hinbekommen, aber was ich machen will, ist die eine Hose so zu kürzen, dass ich sie im Sommer mit flachen Schuhen tragen kann, und die andere so lange zu lassen, dass sie von der Länge zu meinem normalen Paar Schuhen passt.
I haven't gotten around it yet, but what I will do is shorten the hem of the first of the two boot-cut jeans so that I can wear it with flats in summer and leave the other one longer so I can wear it with my regular pair of shoes.
Ich habe ein Foto von den Jeans gemacht, aber die Farbe wirkt viel heller als sie in Wirklichkeit ist. Die Farbe auf dem Foto unten, auf dem ich die Jeans trage, kommt dem tatsächlichen Farbton viel näher.
I took a picture of the jeans, but the colours turned out much lighter than they actually are. The colour on the picture of me wearing the jeans is much closer to the actual colour.
Am ersten Tag, an dem ich die neue Jeans trug, hab ich nicht wirklich was Neues ausprobiert. Neue Lieblingsjeans mit altem Lieblingstuch, Strickkleid und Kette. Nichts Besonders. Aber gefühlt hab ich mich super!
On the first day I wore them I went for the safe option. New favourite jeans with old favourite scarf, knitted dress and necklace. Nothing special. But I felt great!
