Roter Cardigan || Red cardigan

Oh yes.

I often come across great stuff in charity shops and on flea markets, but finding (knitted) sweaters or cardigans is a challenge. At least that's the case when you're looking for pieces that are still in presentable condition. The other day, I got lucky and saw this beautiful cardigan in the charity shop here in our neighbourhood. I love the colour, it is made from pure wool (and it's not scratchy), from Uniqlo - and cost me 3 GBP. Oh yes.

.
|| At first, I wasn't sure what colour to pair it with. I was considering grey, denim blue and black. And then turquoise was the perfect match!
.
.
|| I got extremely lucky with this scarf, too. I also purchased it in a charity shop where I paid 1 GBP for it, if I remember correctly. It is from Monsoon, so of very good quality. You won't find new Monsoon scarves of this kind for less than 19 GBP.

 .
Dazu: Schönes Armband (Geschenk von einer Freundin aus Wien)...
Wore it with: beautiful bracelet (gift from friend in Vienna)...
.
.
...und silberfarbene Accessoires. I like. A lot.
 ...and silver-coloured accessories. I like. A lot.

Bis dann! || So long!

"Brigitte" und die Models || "Brigitte" and the models

Warum keine dicken Profimodels?

No more models

It's been about three years that one of Germany's most successful women's magazine, fortnightly Brigitte, declared not to use professional models for their photo shoots any more, but "normal" women, women who did not look as if they were in dire need of eating habit change. When I first heard about this idea I thought it was awesome. Until I saw the first pictures of the lay models. They looked pretty much like their professional counterparts. A chance missed, if you ask me. How encouraging, how empowering would it have been so see fat, old, disabled women in Brigitte - or perhaps even a woman with a head scarf?!

Why not fat, old, disabled models?

The new editor-in-chief of Brigitte is now said to consider to go back to working with professional models, one of the alleged reasons being that foto shoots with untrained, unexperienced women are much more time- and thus cost-intensive than cooperating with their professional counterparts. If this campaign was really about making a tiny contribution to a change towards a more inclusive ideal of beauty being promoted in the media, why not hire professional fat, old, disabled, wellclothed ;) models?

It's not too late

But maybe commentator Sibylle Berg who wrote on Spiegel Online is right stating that the campaign as such was a farce and pure impudence. The non-professional models in Brigitte where presented as "normal" women, but who has the right to decide what is "normal" any way? I would have loved to see pictures of women who do maybe not match the dominant ideal of beauty in all regards. Even if Brigitte decided to go back to working with professional women - it would not be too late for that.

Or was it just the sales numbers?

And what if ... this whole campaign was never about the noble aim of countering an ideal of beauty which might be reality for a handful of women out there but which remains out of reach for the majority of us .... but simply about the medial attention such a campaign would garner? If that was the case, the strategy adopted does not seem to have paid off. Sales numbers are still decreasing. Apparently, even "normal" women could not do anything about that.

Frau in der U-Bahn || Woman on the underground

A smile. Hm, shall I? Ok, let's give it a try. Yes!! I get my picture. And a blog on hijab style? Well, that's interesting. She always wanted to know how you wrap a Muslim head scarf.
