Manchmal braucht es kein ausgefuchstes Outfit. Bloß ein Lieblingskleid, ein verlässlicher Hijab, vielleicht ein paar Accessoires (oder auch nicht) - fertig ist das Outfit. Heute war einer dieser Tage. Ich hab den größten Teil des Tages zu Hause verbracht und bin erst eine Stunde oder so vor Maghrib aus dem Haus und in den Park gegangen.

Sometimes you don't need a sophisticated outfit. Just a favourite dress, a reliable hijab, perhaps some accessories (or not) - and you're good to go. Today was one of those days. I spent most of the day at home and just left the house for an hour or so before Maghrib to go to the park.

 

Zum ersten Mal in fast zwei Wochen sah das Wetter mehr nach London als LA aus... || For the first time in almost two weeks, the weather felt more like London than LA...

Ich habe diesen Rock gestern geschenkt bekommen. Er hat mir so gut gefallen, dass ich ihn noch am gleichen Abend per Hand gewaschen haben, damit ich ihn heute anziehen konnte. Ich liebe die Farbe und das Muster. Da ist mir gleich nach Sommerurlaub am Mittelmeer zumute...

I was given this skirt as a gift yesterday and liked it so much I handwashed it the same night so that I could wear it today. I love the colour and pattern, it makes me want to leave for a summer holidays in the Mediterranean...

 

Ich habe ihn nicht als Rock, sondern als Kleid getragen. Langarmboldero, passender Hijab, flache Schuhe - fertig ist das Outfit!

I didn't wear it as a skirt but as a dress. Long-sleeve shrug, matching hijab, flats - and you're good to go!

Ein Kleid, vier Arten, es zu tragen || One dress, four ways

Als ich dieses Kleid vor zwei Jahren kaufte, hätte ich nicht gedacht, dass man es auf so viele Arten tragen könnte. In der Zwischenzeit habe ich es mit schwarz und magenta (und silbernen Accessoires), mit weiß (ohne Accessoires), mit weiß und magenta (und silbernen Accessoires) getragen...

When I purchased this dress two years ago, I would have never thought there are so many ways to wear it. Alas, in the last two years, I have worn it with black and magenta (and silver accessories), with white (and no accessories), with white and magenta (and silver accessories)...

 

Heute habe ich es mit burgunder und goldenen Accessoires probiert. Sah annehmbar aus. Find ich. || ...and today I tried it with burgundy and golden accessories. Looked acceptable. I think.

Kalifornisches Schwarz und Pink || Californian black and pink



Palmen, Sonne, Orangenbaeume, Berge und Meer: wir sind in Kalifornien! Nach Wochen staendig wechselnden Wetters in England war es richtig gut, fuer hier zu packen. Bis auf eine Jeans fuer die Reise habe ich nur Maxiroecke und Kleider eingepackt - juhuuu!

 

Palms, sunshine, orange trees, mountains and sea: we're in California! After weeks of constantly changing weather in England, it was so good to pack for here. Apart from one pair of jeans for the journey I only packed maxi skirts and dresses - yoohoooo!

 

 

Am ersten Tag habe ich meine "falsche Abayah" und eines meines Lieblingssommertuecher getragen. || On the first day, I wore my "fake abayah" and one of my favourite summer scarves.

Hallo Frühling || Hello spring

Es mag ja immer noch eher kalt sein (und JEDEN TAG regnen), aber blühende Bäume und Blumen, wohin man schaut, lassen keinen Zweifel: es ist Frühling!

It may still be rather cold (and rain EVERY. SINGLE. DAY) but blossoming trees and flowers everywhere don't leave any doubt: spring is here! 

Also trug ich auch gleich ein Kleid mit Blumen... :P 

Ich bin wirklich nicht jemand, der Blumenmuster besonders dolle findet, aber irgend etwas hat mir gefallen an diesem Kleid.

So I wore a floral dress, too... :P 

Now I am really not someone who is very much into floral patterns, but I did like something about this dress.

Und überhaupt bin ich extrem stolz auf dieses Outfit: Drei der fünf Kleiderstücke, die ich trage, stammen aus Charity-Shops - und die übrigen beiden haben mich je einen Pfund gekostet. #wenigerausgeben #bewusstkaufen

Fashion meets Art

Was passiert, wenn Mode und Kunst aufeinander treffen, fragten sich Wirtschaftswissenschaftsstudentin Sonia und Visuelle Künstlerin Tasnim. Stellten einen Pop-up-Store im Einkaufszentrum Kölner Arcaden auf. Und stellen dort seit dem 10. März für einen Monat Sonias hijabtaugliche Mode und Tasnims Kunst über Identität und Frauenbilder aus. In diesem kurzen Youtube-Video erklären Sonia und Tasnim das Projekt und die Idee, die dahinter steht:

What happens when fashion meets art, economics student Sonia and visual artist Tasnim asked themselves. They set up a pop-up store in the Cologne-based mall Kölner Arcaden where since 10 March they have showcased Sonia's hijab-appropriate fashion and Tasnim's art on identity and perceptions of women. In this short Youtube video, Sonia and Tasnim describe the project and the idea behind it (sorry, in German only!):
