❤ The Body Shop & Dr Organic

Als ich angefangen habe, mehr Bio-Schönheits- und Pflegeprodukte zu benutzen, war der erste Laden, in dem ich eingekauft habe, der Body Shop. Den gibt's überall, ich kannte ihn, und ihr Marketing war gut. Mir ist erst später klar geworden, dass man super Bio-Produkte woanders viel günstiger (oft für die Hälfte oder ein Drittel des Preises!) bekommt. Jetzt kaufe ich meine Bio-Schönheits- und Pflegeprodukte meistens von Dr Organic bei Holland and Barrett's.

When I started using more organic beauty and care products, the first place I shopped from was The Body Shop. It was easily accessible, I knew it, and their marketing was great. It was not until later that I realised that you could get great organic products for much cheaper (often 1/2 to 1/3 of the price!) elsewhere. Now I mostly get my organic beauty and care products from the Dr Organic range at Holland and Barrett's. 

Letztens wollte ich ein paar Fruchtsprays vom Body Shop kaufen, wovon ich letzten Endes natürlich viel zu viele geholt habe, und als ich die neue Zitronenreihe gesehen habe, habe ich auch davon eine Flasche mitgenommen. Und von dem tollen Badeschaum - Mango ist einfach das Beste!

The other day, I wanted to get a few fruit sprays from The Body Shop, ended up getting way too many, and when I saw their new Lemon range, picked up a bottle of that, too. And of that gorgeous bubble bath - mango is simply the best!

Danach sind wir zu Holland and Barrett's gegangen, und ich habe noch ein paar andere Sachen gekauft. Der Sheabutter-Bodyscrub ist genial, das macht deine Haut so weich! Ich mag die Rosenreihe auch total - ich brauchte einen neuen Gesichtsreiniger, und sie hatten so ein 2-für-1-Angebot, also habe ich mir auch noch den Toner geholt. Ich glaube nicht wirklich an die Effektivität von Tonern, aber wenn ich welche benutze, fühl ich mich immer super special, deswegen habe ich mir doch einen geholt, auch wenn ich nicht wirklich glaube, dass es für meine Haut einen Unterschied macht. Die Dr Organic-Zahnpastas sind auch super. Ich habe mir dieses Mal die Kohle- und Teebaumölsorten geholt. Es gibt auch eine Granatapfelzahnpasta, die ich auch ganz toll finde.

After that, we went to Holland and Barrett's, and I picked up a few more things. Their shea butter body scrub is amazing, it makes your skin so soft! I like their rose range, too - I needed a new face scrub, and they had a 2-for-1 kind of deal, so I got the toner, too. I don't really believe in toners, but using them makes me feel super pampered, so I got this one, even if I don't think it actually makes a difference to my skin. The Dr Organic toothpastes are amazing, too. I got the charcoal and tea tree oil ones this time. They have a pomegranate one, too, which I love as well.

Favourite scents || Lieblingsparfüms

Habt ihr ein Lieblingsparfüm? Ich bin, was Parfüms angeht, ziemlich wählerisch. Als Teenager mochte ich Trésor de Lancôme, Obsession von Calvin Klein, und No. 5 von Chanel. Alles klassische Düfte, vor allem natürlich No. 5.

Do you have a favourite perfume? I am quite picky when it comes to perfume. As a teenager, I really liked Trésor de Lancôme, Obsession by Calvin Klein, and No. 5 by Chanel. All classical scents, especially No.  5, of course.

Dann hab ich lange kein Parfüm getragen, beziehungsweise nur ganz leichtes, fruchtiges - das Rosen-Himbeer-Spray und das Grapefruit-Spray von The Body Shop. Im Sommer vor zwei Jahren hat mir meine Mutter dann ein stärkeres Parfum geschenkt - ein Öl, bei dem ich gar nicht weiß, was genau drin ist, aus Sri Lanka. Es riecht sehr viel stärker und voller und sehr orientalisch. 

Then I didn't wear perfume for a long-time, or only very light, fruity ones - like the rose raspberry spray and the grapefruit spray by The Body Shop. In the summer two years ago, my mum gave me a stronger perfume - an oil that I don't actually know what exactly it contains - from Sri Lanka. It is much stronger and fuller and very oriental.

Letztes Frühjahr hab ich mir dann wieder eine kleine Flasche No. 5 gekauft. Erst war es mir zu stark, aber dann hab ich mich doch wieder dran gewöhnt, und es seitdem viel getragen. Vor ein paar Tagen ist mir beim Aufräumen eine Flasche Obsession in die Hände gefallen, die ich vor zwei oder dei Jahren geschenkt bekommen hatte, aber nie getragen habe, weil mir der Duft zu stark war. Ich hab es vor ein paar Tagen getragen und bin wieder ganz begeistert davon. Vielleicht passt es jetzt im Winter einfach besser?

Last spring I bought myself a small flask of No. 5 again. At first, I felt it was too strong, but then I got used to it again and have been wearing it a lot since then. A few years ago, I found a bottle of Obsession while tidying up. I had gotten it as a gift a few years ago, but never wore it, because I found it much too strong. I wore it a few days ago and loved it. Maybe it just works better in winter?

On the road

Wir sind diesen Sommer nach Frankreich gefahren - meine Schwester, die im Süden, nicht weit von der Grenze zu Spanien lebt, besuchen. Von Deutschland aus, wo ich meine Familie besucht hatte, ist es eine ziemlich lange Fahrt. Ich wollte also etwas Praktisches und Bequemes tragen. Wenn ich reise, trage ich normalerweise ein kurzes Kleid, Jeans und bequeme Schuhe. Es war sehr warm (weit über 30°C - fast 40°C), also habe ich diese Tunika aus Baumwolle gewählt. In pink 💗

We went to France this summer, to see my sister who lives in the south, near the border to Spain. It's quite a long drive from Germany, where I was staying with my family, so I wanted to wear something practical and comfortable. When I travel, I usually wear short dresses, jeans and comfortable shoes. It was very warm (way over 30°C - actually closer to 40°C), so I chose this cotton tunic. In pink 💗

Ich hab den Großteil vom August bei meiner Familie in Deutschland und Frankreich verbracht ... daher die lange Blogpause in den letzten Wochen. Ich werde in den nächsten Tagen inshaallah ein paar Outfit-Posts aus dieser Zeit posten ... beginnend mit einem Post über ein Paar neue Schuhe, die ich in Deutschland gekauft habe ❤ Es gibt einen italienischen Schuhladen nicht weit von da, wo meine Mutter lebt. Die Schuhe sind super Qualität und nicht billig ... aber ich kaufe sie normal immer im Schlussverkauf. Sie kosten mindestens 100 EUR, aber im Sale kriegt man sie auch für die Hälfte des Preises. Ich brauche jetzt nicht wirklich neue Schuhe, aber die Farbe hat mir so gut gefallen ... und sie haben nur 50 EUR gekostet, was wirklich ein guter Preis für ein Paar gute Lederschuhe ist.

I spent most of August in Germany and France with family ... hence the lack of posts in the last weeks. I will share a few outfit posts from that time in the next days inshaallah ... starting with a post about a new pair of shoes I bought in Germany ❤ There is an Italian shoe shop very close to where my mum lives. The shoes are excellent quality and not cheap ... but I usually buy them in the sale. They usually cost at least 100 EUR, but in the sale you can get them for half the price. I don't really need any more shoes, but I loved the colour of these ... and they were only 50 EUR, which is a good price for a pair of good quality leather shoes.

Sommer im Park || Summer in the park

Als ich mir im Juni den braunen Maxirock von Shukr geholt habe, hab ich auch den blauen Batikrock hier bestellt. Es ist der selbe Schnitt wie der braune Rock, und ich find die Farbe und das Muster toll.

When I got the brown maxi skirt from Shukr in June, I also ordered this dark blue tie dye one. It's the same cut as the brown skirt, and I love the colour and pattern.

Ich hab ihn zum ersten Mal letzten Monat in den Park getragen, mit einem blauen langärmligen Hemd und einem blaugrünen Tuch (das auch von Shukr ist).

Lieblingsläden || Favourite shops

Die beiden Kleider hier von Boden hab ich letzten Monat bestellt. Ein knielanges Kleid (in gelb), und ein blaues Maxikleid. Das gelbe Kleid sieht gut über einer Jeans, mit einem weißen langärmeligen Hemd drunter und rosa Kopftuch aus. Und das blaue passt so ziemlich zu allem und kann mit jeder Menge verschiedenen Hemden und Kopftüchern getragen werden.

These are two Boden dresses I ordered last month. A knee-length one (in yellow), and a blue maxi dress. The yellow one looks great over jeans and a white long-sleeve shirt, worn with a pink hijab. And the blue one is so versatile and works with a lot of different colour shirts and scarves.

Boden ist einer meiner Lieblingskleiderläden. Es hat hat eine Weile gedauert, bis ich Läden gefunden habe, die Kleider machen, die ich mag, aber in der Zwischenzeit bin ich auf einige gestoßen, von denen ich weiß, dass ich immer, wenn ich danach schaue, mindestens ein Kleiderstück finde, das mir gefällt.

Boden is one of my favourite places to buy clothes. It took me a while to find brands that make clothes that I like, but I have found a few now, where I know that I will find several pieces I like whenever I look. 

Boden: Boden ist super für aussagekräftige Muster und bunte Farben.

Boden: Boden are great for bold prints and vibrant colours. 

Joules: Mir gefällt, dass die Kleider klassisch und gleichzeitig modern sind. Außerdem mag ich die Farben - viel blau, rot, pink... Und die Muster: Streifen, Polkadots, und Blumenmuster.

Joules: I like that their pieces are classic and modern at the same time. I also like the colours - lots of navy, red, pink... And the patterns: stripes, polka dots, and floral patterns.

Seasalt: Seasalt ist super für alles, was nach Meer aussieht. Klassische Schnitte, viel rot und blau (was zwei meiner Lieblingsfarben für Kleider sind). Viel Streifen, manchmal Polkadots.

Seasalt: Seasalt is great for anything maritime-themed. Classic cuts, lots of red and blue (which are some of my favourite colours to wear). Often stripes, sometimes polkadots.

Land's End: Land's End macht die besten Jeans. Ihre knielangen Wickelkleider sind auch toll. Manche der Farben sehen etwas komisch aus, aber zum Glück nicht bei allen Kleidern.

Land's End: Land's End do the best jeans ever. I really like their knee-length wrap dresses, too. Some of the colours are a bit off, but luckily not all of them. 

White Company: Ich hab ein schwarzes Kleid von ihnen, ein graues Leinenkleid, das ich gerade est gekauft habe, und einen Coatigan, den ich seit letztem Jahr habe. Die Kleider sind meistens in neutralen Farben, und sie sehen 'erwachsener' aus als Boden und Seasalt (und selbst Joules). Die Stoffe sind auch exquisiter als bei den anderen vier Marken - allerdings sind die Kleider auch teurer. 

White Company: I have a black dress from them, a grey linen dress that I have just bought, and a coatigan that I got last year. Their clothes are mostly in neutral colours, and they look more 'grown-up' than Boden and Seasalt (but also Joules). They use more exquisite fabrics than the other four, but they are also more expensive.

Billig sind aber auch die Kleider von den anderen vier nicht. Aber die Qualität ist es wert. Und ich kaufe sowieso meistens im Sale.

That being said, none of these five are cheap. But the quality is worth it. And: I usually buy in the sale anyway.

Sommerschuhe || Summer shoes

Im Sommer trage ich am liebsten Ballerinas. Sandalen sind auch gut, aber Ballerinas mag ich noch mehr, weil deine Füße darin mehr geschützt sind und nicht so schnell dreckig werden. Ich habe ein paar teure Ballerinas, aber die meisten sind von Primark. Ich kaufe sie für 4, 6 GBP, trage sie ein, zwei Sommer, und hol mir ein neues Paar, wenn die alten auseinander fallen. Ich weiß Primark ist weder die nachhaltigste noch die ethischste Option, aber so mach ich das jetzt schon seit ein paar Jahren.

In summer, my favourite shoes are flats. Sandals are nice, too, but I like flats even more, because your feet are more protected and get less dirty. I have a few expensive flats, but most of flats are from Primark. I buy them for 4, 6 GBP, wear them for a summer or two, and get a new pair when they fall apart. I know Primark is not the most sustainable or ethical option, but this is what I've been doing for the last few years. 

Heute sind wir zu Deichmann, um nach einem Paar neue Schuhe für das P-linchen zu gucken. Wir konnten nichts finden, aber es war Sale, und letztendlich hab ich dann den Laden mit vier neuen Paar Schuhen verlassen ... und das für weniger als 30 GBP! Mein Lieblingspaar sind die roten, und danach die gelben.

Today we went to Deichmann to look for a pair of new shoes for little P. We didn't find anything for her, but there was a sale, and I ended up leaving that place with four pair of new shoes ... and I spent less than 30 GBP! My favourite are the red ones, and my second favourite the yellow ones.

Der Rock || The skirt

In der letzten Woche war das Wetter hier komisch (wie Sommer fühlt es sich auf jeden Fall kaum an!), aber vor einer Woche hatten wir ein paar richtig schöne Tage. Im Sommer trage ich meistens Maxiröcke und Kleider...

The weather has been weird here in the last week or so (you wouldn't believe it's summer!), but a week ago, we had a few really nice days. In the summer, I rarely wear anything else than maxi skirts and dresses outside, so that day...

...und an dem Tag hab ich meinen neuen brauen Maxirock von Shukr zum ersten Mal getragen. Ich hab ihn mit einem alten dunkelblauen Hemd mit Polkadots (das ich an der Taille geknotet habe), und mein rosa Lieblingstuch. Wie gewohnt von Shukr ist die Qualität des Rocks perfekt ... und er fällt total schön ❤

Sportkleider für Hijabis || Workout clothes for hijabis

Als Hijabträgerin Sportkleider zu finden, kann schwierig sein. Ich habe vor ein paar Jahren dieses Top von Shukr (in Schwarz) geholt, und als ich jetzt meinen Store Credit aufbrauchen sollte, habe ich mir ein zweites Sporttop von ihnen bestellt.

Finding hijab appropriate workout clothes can be difficult. I got this top from Shukr (in black) a few years ago (it's perfect!), so when I needed to use up my store credit now, I decided to get another workout top from them. 

Viele von Shukr's Kleider sind in eher dunkel Farben gehalten (schwarz, dunkelgrün, dunkelblau, rotbraun, burgunderrot) ... und ihr wisst, wie sehr ich Farbe liebe ... deswegen war ich begeistert, als ich dieses Sporttop in einer meiner Lieblingsfarben gesehen habe - in blaugrün!

A lot of Shukr's clothes are in very dark colours (black, dark green, dark blue, maroon, burgundy) ... and you know how much I love colour ... so I was so excited to find a workout top in one of my favourite colours - teal! 

Ich hab das Top in Größe M bestellt. Die Lieferung war, wie immer, unglaublich schnell (obwohl sie in Jordanien sitzen!), und die Qualität des Tops war auch tip top. Es ist aus Rayon, Baumwolle und ein bisschen Elastan gemacht. Der Stoff ist super weich und sehr bequem zu tragen. Das Top ist an mir knielang und passt gut. Ich hätte es wahrscheinlich an einigen Stellen ein bisschen enger geschnitten gewollt ... andererseits trage ich ja Hijab, und sollte wohl froh sein, dass es etwas weiter ist.

I ordered an M. As usual, delivery was super fast (despite them being based in Jordan!), and the quality of the top was top notch. It is made from rayon, cotton and a bit of elastane. The fabric is super soft and very comfortable to wear. The top is knee-length on me, and it's a good fit. I would probably have wanted it to be a bit more fitted in some parts, but then I do wear hijab, so I guess I should be happy it's a bit looser. 

Ich hab es mit einem blauen Hijab (auch von Shukr - dem Professional Hijab in Royal Blue). Ich hab noch kein einziges Kopftuch von SHUKR gekauft, das nicht PERFEKT war. In dem Foto unten könnt ihr sehen, wie schön es fällt. Und die Farbe ist auch ❤❤❤!

I wore it with a blue hijab (also from Shukr - the Professional Hijab in Royal Blue). I haven't bought a single hijab from Shukr yet that wasn't PERFECT. You can see how beautifully it drapes in the picture below. The color, too, is ❤❤❤!

Ich hab heute jetzt keinen intensiven Sport gemacht (sondern bin schnell laufen - nicht joggen - gegangen), deswegen hab ich das Top mit Jeans getragen. Die Bilder hab ich gemacht, bevor ich schnell noch in den Supermarkt bin - bevor ich dann in den Park gegangen bin, hab ich noch Turnschuhe angezogen, die zum schnell Laufen bequemer sind. 

I didn't do any heavy workout today (but just went for a brisk walk in the park), so I wore the top with jeans. I took the pictures just before popping to the shops - before I went to the park, I changed into trainers that are more comfortable for fast walking.

Ich nehme normalerweise meine kleine Crossover-Tasche mit in den Park - und ich mag, wie das warme, helle Braun gegen das Blaugrün aussieht.

Coronavirus-Gesichtsmasken || Corona virus face masks

Gesichtsmasken sind hier seit kurzem Pflicht in öffentlichen Verkehrsmitteln, um die Verbreitung des Coronavirus zu verlangsamen. Ich hab in den letzten drei Monaten nicht wirklich öffentliche Verkehrsmittel benutzt, aber ich dachte, es ist besser, vorbereitet zu sein, also hab ich ein paar Gesichtsmasken für das P-linchen und micht bestellt. Und weil Einwegmasken hässlich sind und nicht gut für die Umwelt, hab ich stattdessen ein paar wiederverwendbare Masken von Etsy verwendet.

Face masks have recently become compulsory here on public transport, to help prevent the spread of the corona virus. I haven't really been using public transport in the last 3 months, but I thought it would be better to be prepared, so I ordered a couple of face masks for both little P and me. And because the one-use face masks are both ugly and not that great for the environment, I ordered a few reusable cotton masks from Etsy instead. 

Ich trage meisten rosane, blaue oder dunkeltürkise Kopftücher, also hab ich die Gesichtsmasken dementsprechend ausgewählt. Politisch gesehen würde ich immer das Recht jeder Frau, Niqab zu tragen, verteidigen, aber für mich persönlich ist Niqab nichts. Insofern war der Gedanke, dass ich jetzt de facto Teilzeit-Niqabi bin, ziemlich komisch ... vor allem, weil es auf Geheiß derselben Regierung war, die hier seit Jahren schon Niqabis auf die schlimmste Art und Weise verteufelt.

Most of the headscarves I wear are either pink, blue or teal, so I chose the face masks accordingly. While I politically support every woman's right to wear niqab, I would personally never consider wearing it, so it's been quite a strange thought that I have now de facto become a part-time niqabi ... especially considering that this has been on the orders of the same government that has been vilifying Muslim women in the most horrifying ways for years. 

Aber Politik beiseite, hier sind ein paar der Gesichtsmasken, die ich bestellt habe. Ich habe sie von zwei verschiedenen Etsy-Verkäuferinnen bestellt: Dandy Floss Crafts und Alicias Gift Store. Die Masken von Dandy Floss sind als erstes angekommen ... in pinkem Seidenpapier in einem schwarzen Umschlag:

Ich bin jetzt immer noch ein großer Fan von Gesichtsmasken, aber diese hier sehen wenigstens schön aus - und wir sind jetzt vorbereitet und können öffentliche Verkehrsmittel benutzen, wenn wir müssen.

I'm still not a big fan of face masks, but at least these look nice - and we are prepared now and able to use public transport when we need to.
