Blau wieder entdeckt || Rediscovering blue

.
.
I have been wearing a lot of blue in the last months. I used to love blue as a child and teenager but had not worn it in ages. Even though, thinking about it, I had never really stopped wearing blue, I just hardly ever wore it as the main colour of an outfit, but more as a neutral.
.
.
In the last weeks, I have pretty much worn it everyday. Dark blue, light blue, turquoise, teal. <3 It all started when I came across this dress (which looks kind of green in some of the pictures but in fact is blue) at the beginning of the summer. My first thought was to wear it with black, but then I realised that black would have completely ruined the whole look (as black often does with colourful outfits). So I wore blue with blue and blue - and loved it!

In summer, blue looks particularly great with white, teal and turquoise. Like in these pictures:

I really like this (Turkish) way of throwing the two end of your scarf over your shoulders. The only problem is that it does not really cover the chest. I really wanted to wear it this way though, so I was really pleased when a couple of days ago, I finally figured out that if I kept on pulling down the bit of the scarf in the front, the scarf provides as much coverage as I wanted it to.

|| The skirt looks pretty blue in these pictures, while it is actually a dark teal.

Schönheit || Beauty

Not that we didn't know ... but just in case anyone needed the reminder.

“He who is attracted to you because you showed perhaps your legs or your shape - those legs are not going to look like that for the rest of your life, nor will you be able to maintain that shape forever. So therefore it is better for you to realise that he who is attracted to your heart, your goodness and your character is the one to whom no matter what you look like, he will love you and adore you and 60 years down the road would still tell you that you’re ‘the one’.”

(Mufti Ismail Menk)

Blumenmuster, Spiegel und bengalische Männer || Floral patterns, mirrors and Bengali men

Floral patterns are not usually my thing but I <3 'd the colours in this hijab, so it had to be mine.

I bought it on Whitechapel Market in London. None of the stall owners there have a mirror. I wasn't sure how the colour would look on me so I asked the stall owner if I could take the scarf to one of the shops on the other side of the street. He (Muslim) trusted me (Muslim) enough to let me leave with the scarf I hadn't paid for yet. At first, I wanted to use one of the mirrors on the cars but when I got closer I realised there were people inside the cars. Now I might be (a bit!) crazy (sometimes!!) but I am not that crazy...

Then I saw a barber's shop. It was a tiny, messy, run-down shop, but barbers's shop > mirrors! Lots of mirrors! I looked inside the shop, saw two Bengali men in their forties or fifties inside and only hesitated for a second. The next minute, this crazy woman is in the shop, giving salam to the men and asking them if she could possibly quickly borrow one of their mirrors...

The two men responded with ... big smiles, a mirror that was passed over, and, once she had quickly wrapped the scarf around the hijab she was already wearing, professional fashion advice: "looks nice, yes, yes, looks nice, mashaallah".
