On the road

Wir sind diesen Sommer nach Frankreich gefahren - meine Schwester, die im Süden, nicht weit von der Grenze zu Spanien lebt, besuchen. Von Deutschland aus, wo ich meine Familie besucht hatte, ist es eine ziemlich lange Fahrt. Ich wollte also etwas Praktisches und Bequemes tragen. Wenn ich reise, trage ich normalerweise ein kurzes Kleid, Jeans und bequeme Schuhe. Es war sehr warm (weit über 30°C - fast 40°C), also habe ich diese Tunika aus Baumwolle gewählt. In pink 💗

We went to France this summer, to see my sister who lives in the south, near the border to Spain. It's quite a long drive from Germany, where I was staying with my family, so I wanted to wear something practical and comfortable. When I travel, I usually wear short dresses, jeans and comfortable shoes. It was very warm (way over 30°C - actually closer to 40°C), so I chose this cotton tunic. In pink 💗

Ich hab den Großteil vom August bei meiner Familie in Deutschland und Frankreich verbracht ... daher die lange Blogpause in den letzten Wochen. Ich werde in den nächsten Tagen inshaallah ein paar Outfit-Posts aus dieser Zeit posten ... beginnend mit einem Post über ein Paar neue Schuhe, die ich in Deutschland gekauft habe ❤ Es gibt einen italienischen Schuhladen nicht weit von da, wo meine Mutter lebt. Die Schuhe sind super Qualität und nicht billig ... aber ich kaufe sie normal immer im Schlussverkauf. Sie kosten mindestens 100 EUR, aber im Sale kriegt man sie auch für die Hälfte des Preises. Ich brauche jetzt nicht wirklich neue Schuhe, aber die Farbe hat mir so gut gefallen ... und sie haben nur 50 EUR gekostet, was wirklich ein guter Preis für ein Paar gute Lederschuhe ist.

I spent most of August in Germany and France with family ... hence the lack of posts in the last weeks. I will share a few outfit posts from that time in the next days inshaallah ... starting with a post about a new pair of shoes I bought in Germany ❤ There is an Italian shoe shop very close to where my mum lives. The shoes are excellent quality and not cheap ... but I usually buy them in the sale. They usually cost at least 100 EUR, but in the sale you can get them for half the price. I don't really need any more shoes, but I loved the colour of these ... and they were only 50 EUR, which is a good price for a pair of good quality leather shoes.

In der letzten Woche war das Wetter hier komisch (wie Sommer fühlt es sich auf jeden Fall kaum an!), aber vor einer Woche hatten wir ein paar richtig schöne Tage. Im Sommer trage ich meistens Maxiröcke und Kleider...

The weather has been weird here in the last week or so (you wouldn't believe it's summer!), but a week ago, we had a few really nice days. In the summer, I rarely wear anything else than maxi skirts and dresses outside, so that day...

...und an dem Tag hab ich meinen neuen brauen Maxirock von Shukr zum ersten Mal getragen. Ich hab ihn mit einem alten dunkelblauen Hemd mit Polkadots (das ich an der Taille geknotet habe), und mein rosa Lieblingstuch. Wie gewohnt von Shukr ist die Qualität des Rocks perfekt ... und er fällt total schön ❤

Coronavirus-Gesichtsmasken || Corona virus face masks

Gesichtsmasken sind hier seit kurzem Pflicht in öffentlichen Verkehrsmitteln, um die Verbreitung des Coronavirus zu verlangsamen. Ich hab in den letzten drei Monaten nicht wirklich öffentliche Verkehrsmittel benutzt, aber ich dachte, es ist besser, vorbereitet zu sein, also hab ich ein paar Gesichtsmasken für das P-linchen und micht bestellt. Und weil Einwegmasken hässlich sind und nicht gut für die Umwelt, hab ich stattdessen ein paar wiederverwendbare Masken von Etsy verwendet.

Face masks have recently become compulsory here on public transport, to help prevent the spread of the corona virus. I haven't really been using public transport in the last 3 months, but I thought it would be better to be prepared, so I ordered a couple of face masks for both little P and me. And because the one-use face masks are both ugly and not that great for the environment, I ordered a few reusable cotton masks from Etsy instead. 

Ich trage meisten rosane, blaue oder dunkeltürkise Kopftücher, also hab ich die Gesichtsmasken dementsprechend ausgewählt. Politisch gesehen würde ich immer das Recht jeder Frau, Niqab zu tragen, verteidigen, aber für mich persönlich ist Niqab nichts. Insofern war der Gedanke, dass ich jetzt de facto Teilzeit-Niqabi bin, ziemlich komisch ... vor allem, weil es auf Geheiß derselben Regierung war, die hier seit Jahren schon Niqabis auf die schlimmste Art und Weise verteufelt.

Most of the headscarves I wear are either pink, blue or teal, so I chose the face masks accordingly. While I politically support every woman's right to wear niqab, I would personally never consider wearing it, so it's been quite a strange thought that I have now de facto become a part-time niqabi ... especially considering that this has been on the orders of the same government that has been vilifying Muslim women in the most horrifying ways for years. 

Aber Politik beiseite, hier sind ein paar der Gesichtsmasken, die ich bestellt habe. Ich habe sie von zwei verschiedenen Etsy-Verkäuferinnen bestellt: Dandy Floss Crafts und Alicias Gift Store. Die Masken von Dandy Floss sind als erstes angekommen ... in pinkem Seidenpapier in einem schwarzen Umschlag:

Ich bin jetzt immer noch ein großer Fan von Gesichtsmasken, aber diese hier sehen wenigstens schön aus - und wir sind jetzt vorbereitet und können öffentliche Verkehrsmittel benutzen, wenn wir müssen.

I'm still not a big fan of face masks, but at least these look nice - and we are prepared now and able to use public transport when we need to.

Ich bin wieder dabei, beim Hijab-Bloggen ... nach fast 3 Jahren! Vielleicht schreib ich irgendwann mal ein bisschen dazu, warum ich aufgehört habe und jetzt wieder da bin, aber heute, dachte ich, fange ich erst mal mit einem kurzen Rückblick an, und in Form einer Liste von Posts, die ich hier auf dem Blog geteilt habe. Und weil meine Lieblingsfarbe pink ist, geht es dabei um pink! Also ... wie trägt man diese wunderbare Farbe? Hier sind ein paar Beispiele, wie ich das (seit 2012!) gemacht habe...

I'm back to hijab blogging ... after almost 3 years! Maybe some other day I'll write a bit about my reasons for leaving and why I'm back, but today I thought I'd start with a bit of a recap, by compiling a list of some of the posts that I have shared on the blog. And because my favourite colour is pink, the focus will be on pink! So ... how to wear this glorious colour? Here are some examples of how I have worn it since 2012...

Ich habe gerade eine Reihe neuer Kleider gekauft (Frühlingskleider und Schuhe, um genau zu sein), deswegen dachte ich mir, ich schreibe eine kurze Review, falls es irgendwen interessiert. 😏

I have just purchased quite a few new clothes (spring dresses and shoes, to be precise), so I thought I'd write a quick review in case anyone is interested. 😏

Also zuerst die Kleider: eine meiner Lieblingsmarken für kurze Kleider (und Jeans) ist Seasalt. Ich liebe die Farbe, den Style und die Qualität. Die Sachen sind nicht billig (aber zu teuer auch nicht), aber die Kleider sind es wert. Außerdem geht das Geld an ein (relativ) kleines Familienunternehmen und man schmeißt es nicht einfach irgend einem Großkonzern in den Rachen...

Let's start with the dresses. One of my favourite shops for short dresses (and jeans) is Seasalt. I love the colours, the style and the quality. The clothes are not cheap (but not too expensive either) but the they are worth it. I also like that it is a (relatively) small, family-run business, so you are not just throwing more money at a company the owner of which is already swimming in money...

Die Farben der beiden Kleider sind zwei meiner Lieblingskleider, blaugrün und magenta. Leider war das magenta Kleid zu groß und das blaugrüne Kleid zu klein (was komisch ist, weil beide in Größe 38 waren), deswegen gehen sie beide zurück. Vielleicht bestell ich das blaugrüne Kleid noch mal in 40, mal gucken.

The colours of these two dresses are two of my favourite colours, teal and magenta. Unfortunately, the magenta one was too big, and the teal one too small (which is strange, because they were both a size 10), so they are both going back. Maybe I'll exchange the teal one for a 12, let's see.

Ansonsten hab ich Schuhe gekauft, zwei Paar Frühlingsschuhe und ein Paar Turnschuhe. Passen tun die alle perfekt, die behalt ich. Die Ballerinas sind von Primark, was jetzt nicht die moralisch höchstwertigste Wahl ist, und halten tun die normalerweise auch nur einen Sommer (oder zwei), aber ich kauf mir doch jeden Sommer wieder zwei, drei verschiedene Paar. Das schwarz-weiße Muster gefällt mir und das helle Braun ist einfach ein Klassiker. 💕

Other than that, I bought shoes, two pairs of spring shoes and one pair of trainers. They fit perfectly, and I am going to keep them all. The flats are from Primark, which is not the most ethical choice, and they usually only last a summer (or two), but I keep on getting two to three different pairs every summer. I like the black and white pattern and the tan is just a classic. 💕

 

Und dann habe ich mir noch dieses Paar Turnschuhe gekauft. Ich habe Anfang dieses Jahres angefangen, zu Pilates zu gehen, und kann's gar nicht erwarten, nächste Woche richtige Turnschuhe zu tragen - anstatt die Übungen wie bisher in Socken zu machen. 😖 Die Turnschuhe habe ich von Deichmann. Ich wollte eigentlich welche in magenta oder rosa, konnte aber nichts finden, das nicht neon war... Und grau ist immer eine gute Wahl, weil es zu so ziemlich allem passt.

Lastly, I bought this pair of trainers. I started attending Pilates classes earlier this year and it will be great to finally be able to wear proper trainers - instead of doing the exercises in socks as I have in the past weeks. 😖 The trainers are from Deichmann. I had wanted to get magenta or pink coloured ones, but couldn't find any that were not neon... And grey is always a good choice as it goes with pretty much everything.

Sri Lanka: die pinke Tunika || Sri Lanka: the pink tunic

Ich habe mich gerade durch alte Outfit-Bildern geklickt, die ich einfach noch nicht geschafft habe, zu posten, als ich auf diesen Ordner mit Bildern aus Sri Lanka gestoßen bin. Wenn ihr meinem Blog seit einer Weile folgt, werdet ihr wissen, dass ich Ende 2014 für 10 Tage nach Sri Lanka gereist bin, um eine Freundin zu besuchen und zu sehen, ob es möglich sein würde, dort meine Forschung zu betreiben. Ich habe einige Outfit-Bildern in Sri Lanka gemacht, von mir (1 - 2 - 3), meiner Freundin Ines (1 - 2), ihrer Cousine Shahina (1) und einem Mann auf der Straße (1). 

I was just going through old outfit pictures that I haven't got around posting yet, when I came across this folder with pictures from Sri Lanka. If you have been following my blog for a while, you will know that I went to Sri Lanka for 10 days at the end of 2014, to visit a friend and to see if it was going to be possible to conduct my research there. I took quite a few outfit pictures while in Sri Lanka, of myself (1 - 2 - 3), my friend Ines (1 - 2), her cousin Shahina (1) and a stranger on the street (1). 

Diese Bilder hier sind von einem Outfit, das Ines getragen hat, als wir Brunch in dem alten, den Ozean überschauenden Mount Lavinia-Hotel im Kolonialstil hatten. Die Aussicht war fantastisch, das Hotel wunderschön und das Essen superlecker - zweimal bin ich zurück zum Büffet gegangen!

These pictures here are an outfit Ines wore when we went to have brunch at the old colonial-style Mount Lavinia Hotel overlooking the ocean. The views were fantastic, the hotel beautiful and the food delicious - I went for thirds!
