Zum Brechen von Vorsätzen || On breaking resolutions

Was steht an einem na-ja-wettermäßig-ganz-passablen Augustnachmittag für die junge Familie auf dem Tagesplan? Klar, ein Besuch des lokalen Spielplatzes. Wir waren nicht die einzigen, denen diese Idee gekommen war. Das Lieschen peste also ab, fand sich neue Freunde und ich war allein mit meinem Buch. Das nach einer Weile dann doch etwas langweilig wurde und so kam es dann, dass in einer Ecke des Spielplatzes bei uns im Viertel diese Frau stand und ... Fotos von sich selbst machte. Auweia. Ja. Das war ich.

What is on the agenda of a young family on a "hm-weather-looks-ok-today"-y August afternoon? Yes, a visit to the local playground. We weren't the only ones who had come up with that idea, so Lieschen went off, made a couple of new friends and there I was, alone with my book. Which did become boring after a while ... so after some time you could see this woman standing in a corner of the playground in our neighbourhood taking pictures of herself. Aargh. Yes. That was me.

Allerdings habe ich mit dem Kauf dieses Tuchs meinen Vorsatz, keine neuen, nicht reduzierten Kleider mehr zu kaufen, gebrochen. ABER das war nicht das erste Mal, dass ich eine Ausnahme gemacht habe und es wird auch nicht das letzte Mal gewesen sein, vor allem, wenn es um Kopftücher geht. Als ich nach Großbritannien kam, konnte ich es erst kaum glauben, dass man hier auf den Märkten tatsächlich für nur 1 GBP "Pashminas" kaufen kann, und habe mir massenweise davon besorgt. Bis mir klar wurde, dass die Qualität ... naja, einen Pfund eben wert ist. Keiner dieser Schals hält länger als ein Jahr. Was ätzend ist, weil ich BESSERES ZU TUN HABE, als die Märkte hier so oft nach neuen Schals zu durchstöbern. Also: weiteres Vorsatzbrechen ist zu erwarten!

Having said that, buying this scarf, I broke my resolution not to buy new, non-reduced clothes any more. BUT ... it's not been the first time I've made an exception and I will do it again, in particular for scarves. When I first came to the UK, I couldn't believe you could buy "pashminas" for 1 GBP only at the markets here, and I bought loads of them. Until I realised that the quality is ... well, worth a pound. None of these scarves lasted longer than a year. Which is rather annoying because I have BETTER THINGS TO DO than to browse local markets for a new scarf that often. So, here's to more resolution breaking!

Ha, und auf dem Bild oben verrate ich noch ein Geheimnis... (siehe ganz links oben im Bild): Ich bin ein Nadel-Freak. Kopftücher haben für mich an Ort und Stelle zu bleiben, ich kann kaum etwas weniger haben, als wenn man sich alle paar Minuten vergewissern muss, dass noch alles an Ort und Stelle ist. Also wird das Ganze schön fixiert. Mit vielen Sicherheitsnadeln. Die ich von innen feststecke, so dass sie nicht (na ja, kaum) zu sehen sind.

Ha, and on the picture above I am disclosing another secret... (see top left corner of the photo): I love my pins. To me, headscarves are to stay in place; there is hardly anything I can stand less than having to check every couple of minutes if everything is still where it is supposed to be. So the whole thing is being fixed. With loads of safety pins. Which I pin from the inside so that they can not (well, hardly) be seen.
