Hijab - ja oder nein? || Hijab - yes or no?

Hier.

Is hijab a religious obligation? Some, like Lobna Mulla, say it is. Others, such as Lamya Kaddor, think it isn't. She states that "in contemporary Germany such covering-up no longer serves" its original purpose. Read more here.

Kleider im Qur'an || Clothes in the Qur'an

"O children of Adam, We have bestowed upon you clothing to conceal your private parts and as adornment. But the clothing of righteousness - that is best. That is from the signs of Allah that perhaps they will remember."

Surah Al-'A'raf (the Heights / die Höhen) 7:26

Oh yes.

I love this verse. Clothing is there to cover oneself - and as adornment. More important than what you wear is how you behave. Oh yes.

Muslim Street Style London 1

I have written about how difficult it is to take pictures of women wearing hijab on the street. They don't know you, they don't know your blog, they have no clue what you are going to do with their pictures...

That's why when the other day I went to a meeting that a lot of Muslim women I know attended I seized the opportunity and talked them into letting me take loads of pictures... I went home with 25 pictures of beautiful Muslim women and their clothes ... which is way too much for one blog posts, so I'll divide them up. Which means you'll get a whole series of beautiful Muslimah posts - isn't that exciting?!

Simple black abayah with colourful pashmina - a classic!

Also a classic: wrap another scarf around shoulders and chest
for extra coverage (and it keeps you warm, too).

One-piece abayah that is worn over the head.

I have a wintercoat in a similar colour!
(Just a bit longer, till the knee, and with a hood)

And ... yes, that's the same shoes I also have!
She bought them in the Middle East though and not in the US like me.

Mhm, and that's the same scarf I also own -
I have it in turquoise though and not in purple.

And since you requested it,
voici some pictures of the actual headscarves.

|| I love the colour mustard yellow (and cardigans on men are cool, too, aren't they?).

|| Looks great with jeans (light blue ones like the ones he wears or dark blue jeans) and brown or grey.

|| But shorts in November ... weren't you freezing cold?

It took me some time but I'm done with washing and going through most of the vintage clothes that I bought on my recent trip to Birmingham. It usually takes me ages to get this kind of stuff done, so I am very proud of myself... One of my favourites is this red dress. I loved the fabric, these white leaves look so cool on the red background, don't they?

When I had washed it at home, I was surprised to see that it fitted me perfectly. Perfect length, not too wide, not too tight, and you can adjust it in the waist. The only thing I had to get rid off were the shoulder pads (who needs shoulder pads with a dress like this?!), but it was no problem to cut them.

The only thing I'm thinking about now is whether I should take the buttons off and sew the two sides together instead (because it looks a bit like one of these pinafores housewives used to wear ... when? in the 50s? 60s?). I'll have to wait though till I go to Germany next time, because I don't have a sewing machine (and nobody to show me how to use it...) here.

Gummistiefel für Große || Wellies for grown-ups

London is the only city I know where it is socially acceptable (for grown-ups) to wear welly boots on the street.

Oh yes.

This young woman isn't even from England (but from Sweden), but she clearly makes the best of the welly boot on the street trend. Red wellies worn with a blue-white polka dot dress? Oh yes.

Und selbst ihre Haare... ||
And even her hair and...

...nail polish match the outfit.
